The Hradec Králové Region

The region’s center is the city of Bohemian queens, Hradec Králové. This area spreading around the confluence of the Labe and Orlice Rivers was colonized as early as prehistoric times; the first settlers came here nearly 25,000 years ago.

Today, the Hradec Králové region offers its visitors not only interesting cities and towns, the most important of them being the university city of Hradec Králové with major historic sites, but also beautiful nature and excursions into Czech literature. The famous 19th century Czech writer, Božena Němcová, spent her idyllic, perhaps somewhat idealized youth here. You can visit some of the places from her novels, such as the Ratibořice Chateau and Babiččino údolí (Grandmother’s Valley). From there, you can go to the Adršpach-Teplice Rock Formations, the safari-style zoo in Dvůr Králové, the chateau in Náchod, the Baroque Kuks Hospital grounds, the chateau in Nové Město nad Metují and the Dobrošov Military Fortress. There is a museum dedicated to Božena Němcová in Česká Skalice, where you can learn everything about the life and work of this interesting, emancipated woman. Another significant writer who places his novels in this region is Alois Jirásek. Those interested in the history of the Bohemian national revival movement can visit an exposition in František Vladislav Hek’s natal home in Dobruška, dedicated to a remarkable man depicted in Jirásek’s most famous novel (F. L. Věk). The well-known writer is also associated with a tourist chalet and a lookout tower in Dobrošov, whose foundation stone was laid with much ado on the occasion of Jirásek’s 70th birthday. The foundations include a document by Alois Jirásek that reads, “Be blessed, dear chalet. May you withstand all storms.” You can see the Náchod area, the Orlické hory Mountains and other places of Kladské pomezí from the lookout tower. Naturally, where there are mountains, there are mountain hikes and skiing! You can use several ski resorts with ski lifts, such as the renowned Říčky ski resort and the recently developed Červená voda ski park with Alpine slopes.

The project is financed by the EU ́s Integrated Operational Programme - National Support for Tourism. The objective is to create a tourism product that will help entrepreneurs in rural areas and people who spend their holidays in the countryside.
