West Bohemian spas

Thermal springs with healing properties, china, the spa triangle, uranium mines in Jáchymov, Marie Curie-Sklodowská and the Reliquary of St. Maurus. Do you already know where we are? The West Bohemian Spa tourist region attracts visitors not only with its colonnades in ornate spa cities, but also with beautiful nature and unique architectonic and cultural monuments. The region’s dominant feature is the spa triangle made up by Karlovy Vary with its twelve healing springs and the famous thirteenth one, Mariánské Lázně, the youngest of the three cities and Františkovy Lázně where Beethoven cured not just his body, but also cheered up his mind with a mysterious lover. By the way, do you know the definition of a thermal spring? Just like any other natural spring, it involves the existence of water and gas sources, but the water is more than 50°C. However, the region’s natural resources are not just mineral springs as you can see in the EGERIA Geopark. Its aggregates are made up of samples of different rocks from granite to gneiss to rare Earth’s mantle relics and volcanic rocks and huge sedimentary units. The geological diversity of this area is further enhanced by deposits of brown coal, pottery and ceramic raw materials, ores and precious metals, the occurrence of precious minerals and bizarre rock formations. You can “smell” the magic of the spa region on the Smraďoch (Stinky) Nature Trail that will take you to a fragment of the beauties concentrated in the Slavkovský les Forest Protected Landscape Area. The West Bohemian Spa region also boasts many manmade objects, such as Hauenštejn Castle, Bečov nad Teplou Castle with the unique Reliquary of St. Maurus, Loket Castle and the Gothic Castle of Andělská hora, whose picturesque ruins provided inspiration to the great poet J. W. Goethe. A peculiar collection of curiosities can be seen at the Kynžvart Chateau that used to serve as a representative seat of the famous Austrian politician, Chancellor K. V. Metternich.

The project is financed by the EU ́s Integrated Operational Programme - National Support for Tourism. The objective is to create a tourism product that will help entrepreneurs in rural areas and people who spend their holidays in the countryside.
