Třebíč – the crossroads of faiths

Another Vysočina town on the UNESCO list is Třebíč.

The emergence of this town coincides with the founding of the Benedictine Monastery. The 13th century Romanesque-Gothic Basilica of the Virgin Mary and St. Procopius that grace the monastery grounds are the most valuable of their kind in the country. Třebíč is the location where the Catholic, the Protestant and the Jewish faiths all meet. Before the Battle of White Mountain, the town was among the most important centers in the Unity of Brethren. The town contains the Brethren chapel, as well as a hospital and a "burial garden". The Capuchin Monastery and the Church of the Transfiguration were built on the site of the former chapel. The Jewish quarter is definitely worth a visit. It’s a lovely world of winding cobblestone streets, separated from the rest of the city by a river and a massive gate. An evening walk under the lantern lights through these streets to the Jewish cemetery has an indescribable charm.

The project is financed by the EU ́s Integrated Operational Programme - National Support for Tourism. The objective is to create a tourism product that will help entrepreneurs in rural areas and people who spend their holidays in the countryside.
